O For a Muse of Fire

I am a widow/mother/daughter/sister/aunt/woman in California. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed. Sometimes I feel calm. Both feelings are because I am a widow/mother/daughter/sister/aunt/woman in California.

When do I miss him?

When do I miss Ken the most? When I am feeling overwhelmed with responsibility, when I see families having fun together, when I see couples holding hands, when my children achieve something, when I'm standing in line at the grocery store, when I'm driving to pick up Claire at school, when I'm walking the dog, when I'm making school lunches, when I'm talking on the phone, when I'm checking my email, when I'm watching tv, when I'm doing laundry, when I'm brushing my teeth, when I'm sharpening my pencil, when I'm mailing a letter, when I'm weighing a decision, when I have some hot gossip to share or a frustration to vent, when I'm looking at Mark and Claire, when I need someone to hold me and tell me I'm beautiful.

Now.
